String of armed robberies happening in desert

Police in three valley cities are investigating armed robberies that all occurred Monday night.

The Mobil station at Washington Street and Country Club was hit just before 8:00 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies say two armed men robbed the clerk, demanding money from the register.

The men took-off with $300 to $400 dollars.

Less than an hour later, someone hit the Shell Station at Adams Street and Highway 111 in La Quinta.

Police say the man was armed with a hammer and threatened the clerk. He got away with thousands of dollars.

Another business in Indio was robbed as well around 7:30 p.m. Monday night.

Two men, one of them armed with a gun, the other with a knife, robbed a smoke shop in the 82-900 block of Avenue 42.

Police say they got away with marijuana paraphernalia and cash.

Police tell News Channel 3/CBS Local 2 they don’t believe any of the crimes are related.
