Highway 62 reopens east of Twentynine Palms after accident

Caltrans crews closed State Highway 62 Wednesday morning to all traffic due to an earlier wreck at mile marker 63, and the resulting recovery operation.

A Transportation Department spokeswoman, Shelli Lombardo, said Highway 62 was expected to be closed in both directions until 1 p.m. Wednesday between Godwin Road and State Highway 177.

Lombardo said motorists will face a detour to State Route 177, Interstate 10, and the west end of Highway 62 during the closure.

There was no word from authorities on the nature of the wreck, or what the clean up operation involved.

Drivers are also advised to expect delays on Highway 62 through Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley and Morongo Valley.

Lombardo said the oversized recovery equipment requires both lanes during transport and closure during recovery.
