City to honor Palm Springs High School with Championship Parade

Palm Springs High School made history in 2014 by winning two CIF championships in the same year. Officials said never in the 76 year history of the school have two teams won CIF championships in the same year, let alone the same season.

The varsity girls volleyball team won the school’s first ever championship in female sports, and then the boys varsity football team overcame the odds and defeated the Serrano Diamondbacks for its second CIF championship.

The city of Palm Springs wants to recognize the historic achievement by holding a Championship Parade downtown.

The parade will take place on Thursday, December 18, starting at 3 p.m. School officials said it will travel north on Palm Canyon Drive, beginning at Arenas Road and ending at Alejo Road.

The parade will feature both championship teams and the Spirit of the Sands Marching Band. Many more groups that helped make both championships possible will also be involved.

Palm Springs High School has received an overwhelming amount of support from the community, and school officials hope to see everyone at the parade to recognize their outstanding student athletes.
