Man identified after deadly motorcycle crash in Palm Desert

A man who died Sunday night after crashing on his motorcycle in Palm Desert has been identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Thomas Gomez, 62, died around 8:30 p.m. after crashing on Deep Canyon Road, 50 feet north of Coral Bell Circle, according to the coroner’s office.

Police said two motorcycles collided in the roadway. The other motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

According to the Palm Desert Police Department, it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol may have been factors in the collision and the investigation is ongoing at this time.

Deep Canyon Road was closed between Lavender Way and Coral Bells Circle while police were on scene Sunday night.

The crash was the second fatal collision in the Coachella Valley on
Sunday and the third in the last three days. A driver was killed in a collision
with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 10 shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, and a man was killed late Friday in a possible DUI crash in Rancho Mirage.
