Temperatures hit 114 degrees in Palm Springs
Temperatures in Palm Springs hit 114 degrees on Thursday, tying a record set in 2001, according to the National Weather Service.
The average temperature for this date is 98 degrees.
On this day last year, it was 95 degrees.
Friday, forecaster predicted the thermometer to hit 110 degrees, five degrees below the record, according to the NWS.
An excessive heat warning has been issued for the Palm Springs resort cities area until 8 p.m. on Friday.
“Heat stroke will be more likely for those engaging in strenuous outdoor activities,” the NWS alert read. “The heat can cause undue health difficulties to the elderly and those without air conditioning.”
The NWS suggested taking extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
“When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or late evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.”
