Woman killed while crossing street in Palm Springs

A woman was killed after being hit by a car while she was crossing a busy street in Palm Springs Monday night.

According to the Palm Springs Police Department, the pedestrian was hit by a car around 10:50 p.m. in the 1500 block of S. Palm Canyon Drive. Police said the woman was not using a crosswalk when she was hit by a motorist traveling southbound.

The woman died at the scene. He identity will be released by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office pending notification of next of kin.

Police said the driver did stop and is cooperating with the investigation. The driver of the car said it was dark and didn’t see the woman walking in the road.

No arrests have been made in the collision.

Police shut down the roadway between Morongo Road and Palmera Road while investigating. The road was reopened at 5 a.m.
