Riverside County man facing 55 counts related to money laundering and grand theft

A Southern California doctor and another man in the medical business have been arrested for what authorities are calling a multi-million dollar money laundering scheme.

A Riverside County district attorney’s statement Wednesday says 49-year-old Dr. Donald Woo Lee of Newport Beach and 49-year-old Sammy Ciling of Temecula have been charged with 55 counts including money laundering and grand theft.

Prosecutors say the two men fraudulently obtained more than $3 million in commercial loans. They gave no further details.

The men are being held on $3.5 million bail. It wasn’t clear whether they had attorneys. A phone listing for Lee’s practice was disconnected.

Lee runs a medical practice in Temecula and Ciling owns and operates several MRI and other medical imaging businesses in Riverside and Los Angeles counties.
