Driver hits hydrant on Varner Road near Monterey Ave.
A car crashed into a fire hydrant on Varner Road, near Monterey Avenue in Thousand Palms, California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.
It happened just before 9 a.m., closing lanes of Varner and the westbound I-10 due to mist and flooding.
Passersby described it as a “fountain of water” into the air.
People involved were taken to the hospital, but their condition is unknown.
