Sheriff’s Deputy helps save Christmas for family after burglary

Four children will have presents to open on Christmas morning thanks to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Crystal Nuno had returned home on Sunday to find someone had broken into her home and stolen electronics and all of the Christmas presents under the tree.

The gifts were for Nuno’s four children.

Deputy Damian Ruiz responded to the call and felt terrible that this families Christmas was ruined.

“She showed me the lack of the items that was there she was still pretty anxious, she was trying to hold a lot of emotions back,” says Deputy Ruiz.

Ruiz went out and bought presents for the children and found some leftover toys from a toy drive the Sheriff’s Department had earlier in the week.

Ruiz surprised the family who are staying with relatives in La Quinta.

“I didn’t expect all this. It’s just like wow, and thank you so much for everything and the kids will be like more happy like they got something,” said Crystal Nuno while fighting back tears.

Deputy Ruiz says it’s important for law enforcement officers to reach out in to community whenever possible.

“It helps us keep grounded, we’re human beings too when somebody is going through some issues and hard times this type of stuff keeps us like I said grounded,” says Ruiz.

The burglary is still under investigation.
