Alleged drunk driver causes deadly crash in Rancho Mirage

Police arrested a 33-year-old suspected drunk driver for triggering a three-vehicle crash in Rancho Mirage that killed a woman, police said Friday.

Cathedral City resident Kenneth Revell, driving a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban eastbound on Gerald Ford Drive, ran a red light and struck a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe going southbound on Bob Hope Drive, said Rancho Mirage police Sgt. Jorge Ramirez.

The SUV continued across Bob Hope Drive and hit a traffic signal pole, causing it to flip on its driver’s side, Ramirez said. The Hyundai then struck a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle headed north on Bob Hope Drive.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 7:04 p.m. Thursday, and paramedics rushed the female driver of the Volkswagen to an area hospital. The woman, suffering from major injuries, was later pronounced dead. he said.

The driver and passenger in the Hyundai Santa Fe were not injured during crash. Revell was arrested and taken to the Riverside County Jail in Indio, where he was booked for felony drunken driving, Ramirez said.

Rancho Mirage police detectives asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (760) 836-1600.
