Inmate breaks out of Northern Calif. jail

Authorities say an inmate broke out of jail by climbing up a ventilation duct and punching out a window Thursday.

Freddy Swanson, 23, made the escape from a Monterey County jail Christmas Day and remains at large. Policebelieve he’s armed and dangerous.

Swanson was arrested Dec. 19 after a hit-and-run car crash and high-speed chase. He was later charged with multiple drug and firearms violations.

A statewide “be on the lookout” bulletin has been issued for his arrest and return to custody.
