Valley parents, business tighten up kids play dates after measles scare

About 300 children, ranging from six weeks old to eight years old, attend My Gym Children’s Fitness Center in Palm Desert each week. The owner, Nancy Scott, said she’s not allowed to ask if a child’s had shots, because of medical protection laws.

Instead she said hands have to be washed and everything has to be deep cleaned, during and after every class. My Gym also has a strict “sick policy.”

Since medical experts say no vaccine is 100 percent effective, and with a recent measles scare and one confirmed case in the desert, some parents are now asking other parents if their child is properly vaccinated.

Others are being careful about taking young children to busy public places like grocery stores, especially if they’re babies who haven’t been vaccinated yet.
