La Quinta Arts Festival Underway

Patrons poured into La Quinta’s Civic Center Campus Friday basking in the sunshine while enjoying temperatures in the mid-80’s and the works of 220 top artists.

The 33rd annual La Quinta Arts Festival features ceramics, paintings, glass and many other art media though Sunday.

It’s organizers say it’s not just about the artists, but also about creating something special for the people of the Coachella Valley.

“They are the patrons that come out and purchase the art and support the work of the contemporary working artists who are here to exhibit their beautiful beautiful wares,” said La Quinta Foundation Executive Director Christi Salamone.

Artists say the festival is the best place to be this weekend, anywhere.

“This is the best show in the United States,” said Jason Napier, an artist from Friday Harbor, Washington.

“What artist wouldn’t want to be at this show? What client? What customer? What art patron wouldn’t want to be here? Everybody wants to be here,” Napier continued.

La Quinta Arts Foundation events have sold more than $42 million worth of art over its 33-year history, while donating nearly $1.1 million in visual arts scholarships.

Artists say they’re inspired by what they’re seeing from those around them.

“When you’re being next to the wonderful artists, David, Lucy Chamberlain, you always have a sense of improvement,” said an artist from New Mexico, Guilloume.

“Because you improve whenever you see something good. You always want to do something better,” Guilloume added.

There’s delicious food this weekend, live entertainment, wine and beer to complement what organizers say is the ultimate cultural experience in the Coachella Valley.

Festival hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Both Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are $15 daily, or $20 for a weekend pass.
