Homes saved after fire sparks in Cathedral City

The Cathedral City Fire Department knocked down a fire that ignited in a business park neighboring homes on the 35000 block of Date Palm Drive Wednesday morning.

Officials said they were called to the fire just before 11 a.m. It started in a dumpster and there was a lot of vegetation and rubbish in the area that contributed to the fire.

Cathedral City firefighters aggressively attacked the flames and stopped the fire from spreading to the homes. Our crew on scene said it appeared one home may have had slight damage from charring.

Firefighters said one passerby was slightly injured during the fire because he jumped a wall to try to warn others nearby.

Officials remained at the business park to clear the scene. The official cause of the fire is under investigation.
