Police still searching for suspect after teen shot at park
The Cathedral City Police Department is still looking for a suspect after a teenager was shot at Panorama Park Friday afternoon. The park is located off of Tachevah Drive and Avenida Maravilla.
The shooting was reported around 2:40 p.m.
According to police, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the torso. They believe the shooting happened after a fight took place in the park bathroom.
Officers suspect the teen was only shot once. He was conscious when emergency crews rushed him to the hospital and he’s currently in stable condition.
A 1999 gray or silver Nissan Sentra was seen speeding away from the scene. Witnesses described the suspect as Hispanic, in his early 20’s, about 5’11” and 150 lbs.
Shortly after emergency crews arrived to the scene, a second gunshot victim showed up to Desert Regional Medical Center. Police initially thought this person may have been involved in the shooting, but as of Monday morning, officers confirmed the teen was the only victim of the Panorama Park incident.
Captain Chuck Robinson with the Cathedral City Police Department said nobody has been arrested yet and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about the shooting or suspect is asked to call police at 760-770-0304. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver more details as soon as they’re available.
