Woman dies in Rancho Mirage crash

An Orange County woman is dead and another is hurt in an early-morning crash in Rancho Mirage, police said Sunday.

Deputy Sawyer with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department says a car veered off the road at Bob Hope Dr. And Ramon Rd. around 12:40 Sunday morning.

The car flew 50 feet off the road, landing near the Union Pacific railroad tracks, CALFire reported.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. A female passenger, Tuyet Nguyen, 47,died at the scene.

Deputy Sawyer says another car was involved, but we do not know to what extent. One person from that vehicle was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

No details regarding car models, or if drugs or alcohol are factors.

A hazardous materials team was called to the scene for a five gallon container leaking chlorine with muriatic acid, a pool-cleaning supply.

Ramon Rd. was shut down at Bob Hope for hours for cleanup and investigation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
