Djokovic haults Isner, Nadal, Federer, Serena all advance
Novak Djokovic highlighted an exciting Wednesday evening of tennis at the BNP Paribas Open. Last year’s reigning tournament champ was tested by hard-serving American John Isner, but ultimately prevailed over Isner in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(5).
Djokovic was one of four top seeds in the men’s draw who advanced to the quarterfinals. 2-seed Roger Federer beat unseeded American Jack Sock, 6-3, 6-2, 3-seed Rafael Nadal eliminated 13-seed Gilles Simon, 6-2, 6-4, and 4-seed Andy Murray also advanced over unseeded Adrian Mannarino, 6-3, 6-3.
In the women’s draw, two of the top seeds in the tournament punched their ticket to the semifinals. Serena Williams, while still not playing her best tennis, defeated Timea Bacsinszky, 7-5, 6-3. And Simona Halep, after dropping her first set, rallied to beat Carla Suarez Navarro, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
