Palm Springs, Xavier Prep avenge losses on diamond, Indio names FB head coach

Palm Desert has thoroughly dominated the DVL on the baseball diamond in the last six seasons, but Palm Springs broke through, handing the Aztecs a humbling home loss.

The Indians beat Palm Desert for the first time since 2008 with a 2-0 shutout win. Palm Springs pitcher Zeke Ibarra went five strong innings, getting out of a key bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ibarra intentionally walked Travis Moniot to load the bases with one out, then proceeded to strike out Beau Berryhill and get Andrew Bash to line out to third to end the frame.

The Indians scored their lone runs in the second and seventh innings, respectively.

Xavier Prep hoped to avenge a late-inning Tuesday loss to Coachella Valley, and did so on the road with a 7-2 win.

The Saints were sparked when Cole Alcorn was hit in the head by a wild pitch. Alcorn was seen bleeding from his ear due to the helmet cutting him on impact, but the senior stayed in the game after getting the go-ahead from team officials.

The Saints scored five runs in the frame en route to the victory.

Indio named Martin White as their new head football coach. The Rajahs were in search of a football coach since firing George Thomas back in December. White will continue his duties as girls basketball head coach along with coaching football in the fall.
