Brush fire in Perris threatened structures

A brush fire that threatened structures in Perris has burned 16 acres Sunday afternoon.

CAL FIRE had reported the fire contained at five acres at 3:40p.m. but then said the fire grew to 16 acres at an update posted on its website at 8:00pm.

The blaze in the area of Lake Mathews Drive and Gavilan Springs Ranch Road was reported at 1:07 p.m., Jennifer Fuhrman of the Riverside County Fire Department said.

Three fire crews backed by two helicopters and a pair of air tankers worked to contained the flames.

Riverside Sheriffs’ Department did evacuate Dawson Canyon Road and Arcano.

No injuries were reported.
