North Shore man arrested for shooting wife in hand

A North Shore man was arrested Sunday evening on attempted murder charges after a domestic dispute led to his wife being shot in the hand, officials with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Richard Rivera Saenz, 33, was taken into custody around 7 p.m. after deputies with the Thermal Station were called to the 99000 block of Avenue 72 in North Shore.

Deputies found a 34-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of the non life-threatening wound.

The investigation revealed the woman was shot by her husband, Richard Saenz, after an argument. Deputies said he was detained by family members prior to the sheriff’s department arriving.

Saenz was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for attempted murder. He was being held in lieu of $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, jail records show.

The investigation into the shooting continues and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Investigator Lisandro Tijerina with the Thermal Sheriff’s Station at 760-863-8990. You should refer to case No. C151020043.
