Unattended cooking fire cause of Highway fire
Fire officials say an unattended cooking fire sparked a wildfire that had threatened hundreds of homes near a Southern California dam.
The fire began Saturday evening in the Prado Dam Flood Control Basin, where vegetation has not burned in decades. It grew to 1.6 square miles and forced the nighttime evacuation of about 300 homes in an area along the border cities of Norco and Corona.
Cooler overnight temperatures and low winds allowed fire crews to attack the blaze. By dawn, evacuation orders were lifted.
By Sunday afternoon, officials said the fire was 35 percent contained.
