Solar farm damaged by Desert Center tornado

The National Weather Service confirms that a tornado hit the Desert Center area late Tuesday afternoon. The twister touched down just North of Desert Center around 3:45 p.m. On Wednesday the Weather Service gave the tornado a rating of “E-F-0.”

The tornado formed just east of Kaiser Road and damaged the Desert Sunlight Solar Project. We received photos of the damage from viewer Jim Kreizinger.

The National Weather Service says they plan to tour the solar plant next week and get a first hand look at the damaged solar panels.
