Car crashes into power pole at Varner & Bob Hope

The California Highway Patrol and the Cathedral City Police Department had to close a portion of Varner Road for several hours on Monday after a car crashed into a power pole at Varner Road and Bob Hope Drive.

Officials said the power pole was being held up by some wires but the pole was partially blocking an eastbound lane. Southern California Edison was called to repair the utility pole.

Two people were taken to the hospital. Authorities said one person sustained moderate injuries and another had minor injuries.

Varner Road was closed from noon until 10 p.m. between Bob Hope Drive and Date Palm Drive.

CHP said the vehicle involved is a gray compact car. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will post more details as soon as they’re available.
