Man dies after being hit by van in Rancho Mirage

A 38-year-old man from Indio died Monday night after being hit by a Honda Odyssey van in Rancho Mirage.

Officials with the Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Shane Brandon. They said he was hit in the eastbound lanes of Country Club Drive, about 85 feet east of Vista Dunes Road, just before 8 p.m.

Deputy Armando Munoz with the sheriff’s department said Brandon wasn’t in a crosswalk at the time of the collision. He was rushed to Eisenhower Medical Center but he died from his injuries less than an hour later.

The driver of the van is cooperating with the investigation, Deputy Munoz said.

There were no other injuries reported in the collision. Westbound Country Club Drive was closed for several hours while authorities were on scene.

The Rancho Mirage Police Department and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call Officer J. Miller with the Rancho Mirage Police Department at 760-836-1600.
