Triple digit heat means deals for locals
Coachella, Stagecoach and The White Party are some of the things that mark the end of season in the desert. But, more people say they are staying for the hot summer months and local businesses welcome them.
“We get our restaurants and activities back without having to wait in line and fight the crowds and the traffic,” said Paul Gerring of Rancho Mirage.
Locals say when the temperatures warm up they get to enjoy the peace and quiet.
“We love the cooler weather, but we like the quiet more than that so it’s a relaxation for us,” said Bill Dawson of La Quinta.
Desert dwellers agree more people stay for the hot summer months than ever before.
“I remember the days when there was tin foil on the windows on a lot of businesses in town and a lot of times you look down the street and you wouldn’t know unless you looked at a calendar what month it was,” added Gerring.
Restaurants across the valley are offering longer happy hours, lower prices and special menus.
“Everything that we’re going to do now is going to be geared toward the locals and the local community,” said Mitch Epstein of Mitch’s on El Paseo.
Locals say they take advantage of the deals around town.
“Happy hours and the things you get to take advantage of on the menus things you don’t get to try during the season now you can do it at an affordable price without the crowds,” concluded Gerring.
