Gas leak at apartment complex forces evacuation

Emergency crews responded to a gas leak at an apartment complex in North Palm Springs Monday morning.

Officers with the Palm Springs Police Department said the gas leak was reported around 10:30 a.m. at the Parkwood Apartments, located on the 2600 block of N. Palm Canyon Drive.

Only one unit had to be evacuated and the gas company was called to shut off the leak, according to police. Initially, authorities said several evacuations were underway.

The preliminary investigation reveals a gardener may have struck the gas line while working in the area. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 spoke to the manager of the apartment complex, he said the gas leak is expected to be fixed early Monday afternoon.
