Dog resuscitated after Indio house fire

A family is out of their home after a fire sparked in Indio Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to a house in the 80000 block of Philadelphia Avenue at about 8:40 a.m. after a fire ignited in the kitchen. An alarm company alerted the fire department after smoke was detected in a hallway.

Firefighters were able to knock the fire down right away, but there was a lot of smoke damage, making the house temporarily unlivable.

Officials said two adults and three children are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Nobody was injured in the fire.

Emergency crews found an unconscious dog in a bedroom and were able to resuscitate the family’s pet at the scene. The owner took the dog to a local animal hospital for treatment, according to a release from Cal Fire.

Firefighters estimate the loss to the home at $50,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
