James Fidler was wanted in shooting near Desert Hot Springs

The search is over for a man considered armed and dangerous after he turned himself into authorities Wednesday night at the Riverside County Sheriff’s Station in Palm Desert.

Officials identified 25-year old James Fidler as the man suspected of shooting a woman in an unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday. The shooting happened in the 16100 block of Via Quedo, northeast of Palm Drive and Dillon Road.

Someone drove the victim to Desert Regional Medical Center where she reamains in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s department.

Fidler fled the scene before authorities arrived, but Munoz said the suspect was spotted in Rancho Mirage around 9:15 a.m. in the area of Frank Sinatra Drive and Monterey Avenue.

The search lead them to a neighborhood near Frank Sinatra Drive and Vista Dunes. At least four K9 units and a helicopter assisted in the search for over six hours.

The search was called-off Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities think the shooting may have stemmed from a domestic dispute.

The investigation continues.
