Timothy Bradley to fight for WBO welterweight title
Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley will have a chance to regain the WBO welterweight championship belt sooner than he expected.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum announced on Monday in Los Angeles that when Timothy Bradley faces Jessie Vargas on June 27th at the StubHub Center in Carson, the bout will indeed be for the vacant WBO welterweight title.
The belt is up for grabs because Floyd Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao back on May 2nd and after the fight, Mayweather relinquished all of his belts including the WBO welterweight championship.
Since his October 2013 win against Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley (31-1-1, 12 KO) is 0-1-1 after a loss to Manny Pacquiao and a draw to Diego Chaves in December.
Vargas (26-0, 9 KO) is the current WBA World super lightweight titleholder, and is moving back up to 147 lbs for the Bradley fight and for the opportunity to headline on HBO. The winner of Bradley-Vargas will have to face Sadam Ali (22-0, 13 KO) at a later date.
