29 Palms couple arrested for home burglary

Police arrested a 29 Palms man and his girlfriend on Tuesday after discovering stolen property in their car that was taken during a home burglary in Morongo Valley on May 1.

Deputies said 26-year-old Russell Young and Katelyn Wright, 21, are accused of stealing firearms, home electronic equipment and tools from a home in the 52600 block of Altadena Drive in Morongo Valley.

The victims told police they believed the couple was possibly involved in the burglary when officers began investigating in early May.

An officer with the California Highway Patrol caught up to the pair on Tuesday after pulling them over for a registration violation. The deputy handling the burglary investigation was called to the scene and the victim was able to identify some of the stolen property in the vehicle, according to the release.

Young and Wright were taken to the Morongo Basin Station for further investigation.

Deputies then served a search warrant at a residence on the 6000 block of Daisy Avenue in 29 Palms, where they found stolen firearms and home electronic equipment valued at more than $2,200.

Young and Wright were booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for residential burglary. They both had bail set at $25,000 each.

Deputies said Young was also booked on two outstanding felony warrants out of Riverside County for spousal abuse and possession of a controlled substance.
