2 men arrested after police chase in Palm Springs
A Cathedral City man who was wanted for a post-release probation violation was arrested Thursday morning after leading police on a pursuit that ended in Palm Springs.
At about 8:45 a.m., 29-year-old Steven Padilla sped away from authorities when they tried to pull him over near Avenida Maravilla and Vista Chino. Padilla was driving a Honda Accord and the chase continued into Palm Springs.
Officers said they lost sight of the car near Sunrise Way and Vista Chino, but a few minutes later the Palm Springs Police Department received word that the vehicle was involved in a non-injury crash near Adobe Way and Hermosa Drive.
Soon after, police found the car he was driving abandoned near Hermosa Drive and Racquet Club Drive.
Palm Springs police searched the area and found the man who was riding with Padilla near San Rafael Drive and Sunrise Way. Officers said 27-year-old Fontana resident Edward Santistevan was taken into custody for a felony parole violation.
Officers said they found Padilla shortly after in the area of Hermosa Drive and Francis Drive. In addition to violating his probation, he was arrested on a felony charge of evading police and a misdemeanor charge for hit and run.
Both men were booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
Police didn’t elaborate on their prior charges that placed them on parole and probation.
