2 men arrested for attempted homicide in DHS

Two brothers were arrested in Desert Hot Springs for attempted homicide Wednesday afternoon following a two-hour standoff with police at the Verbena Crossing Apartments, located at 66950 Ironwood Drive.

Officers with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department said the suspects are accused of shooting a 19-year-old man multiple times in front of that very same complex on Saturday, May 3 at about 1 a.m.

Sean Bejarano, 23, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for attempted homicide around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday following the stand off with police. His older brother, 25-year-old Anthony Ledesma, was also arrested for attempted homicide.

The 19-year-old man the suspects are accused of shooting was struck in the upper torso, but officials said he’s recovering from his wounds.

Nahum Drive, Luis Drive, and Verbena Drive were all closed to traffic from Ironwood Drive to Two Bunch Palms Trail while officers were dealing with the barricaded suspects.

Desert Springs Middle School and Cabot Yerxa Elementary School were momentarily placed on lockdown as a precaution, but district officials said the lockdowns were lifted at 2:40 p.m.

Police said no officers were injured during the standoff.
