One-car crash calls for cut & rescue on Washington Street

Emergency officials are performing a cut and rescue in La Quinta after a car crashed on Washington Street Thursday afternoon.

Cal Fire officials said the crash happened around 4:15 p.m. just north of Avenue 48, close to Lake La Quinta Drive. Emergency crews said only one car was involved and three people were injured.

Two of the patients have major injuries and the other person sustained moderate injuries, according to Cal Fire. At least one person has already been rushed to the hospital via ambulance.

Northbound lanes of Washington Street are expected to be closed at Avenue 48, possibly until 8:30 p.m., while emergency crews are on scene. Cal Fire said southbound lanes remain open.

The car apparently went off the roadway and crashed into a palm tree. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 are on scene and we’ll have more information as soon as it’s available.
