Woman arrested for DUI after driving wrong way on I-10
Westbound traffic on I-10 was brought to a crawl Sunday night after a 21-year-old woman from Indio, driving the wrong way on the interstate, collided with a big rig near Gene Autry Trail.
According to authorities, Jessica Segura was driving eastbound when she entered the westbound lanes of I-10 Sunday night. The crash happened around 11:30 p.m.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol said Segura was driving a Nissan Sentra and the big rig driver swerved to the left to avoid her but he wasn’t able to get out of the way in time.
CHP said the two vehicles side-swiped one another. The Sentra had major damage and the truck overturned. Both drivers sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Segura was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center and was then arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Officers said she was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
She was released after posting $2,500 bail and is due back in court in August.
The big rig was carrying cement powder and it overturned onto the median, spilling diesel fuel onto the roadway. The left two lanes of westbound I-10 were shut down until 5:15 a.m. Monday while crews removed the big rig from the freeway.
