Local junior golfers finish strong in AJGA event in Rancho Mirage

Local junior golfers in the Coachella Valley had a strong showing at an American Junior Golf Association event, the 34th annual ClubCorp Mission Hills Desert Junior played at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage.

On the girl’s side, recent Torrey Pines graduate and China’s Rong Ji won the event with a 7-under 209. Palm Desert incoming senior Jiyoon Jang finished tied for sixth at 5-over 221.

Three local boys finished in the top 20 out of 45 golfers in the field. The best local finish was from Xavier Prep incoming sophomore Caesar Cheng who shot a 2-over 218. Palm Desert incoming senior Casey Scott was right behind in 13th place at 3-over 219. La Quinta’s Grant Calendar ended up tied for 17th after shooting a 7-over 223.

All of the boys finished behind Devin Hua from Guam. Hua won by two strokes by carding a 6-under 210.
