Firefighters starting to make progress

Firefighters are starting to make some progress on the Lake Fire thanks to cooler temperatures and higher humidity.

As of 6:00 p.m. Friday, the fire has burned 30,526 acres and is 20 percent contained. That’s up from 19 percent earlier in the day.

Mandatory evacuations remain in place in Burns Canyon and Rimrock along with areas along Highway 38 east of Angelus Oaks including Barton Flats, Seven Oaks, South Fork, Heart Bar, and Rainbow Lane. A voluntary evacuation remains in place for Pioneertown.

Highway 38 remains closed between Angelus Oaks and Lake Williams. Big Bear Lake is open for the weekend and Highway 18 is the suggested route to get there.

Nearly 2,100 fire personnel remain on scene with air support including 3 air tankers and 2-DC 10 VLAT(very large air tanker).

Four firefighters have been injured since the fire started on June 17th.

Scattered sprinkles have been reported over the fire area.
