Search warrant uncovers meth, heroin & guns in Indio

An Indio man was arrested Thursday morning after the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force discovered narcotics and guns at his home while serving a search warrant.

According to the sheriff’s department, 42-year-old Rafael Lugo was taken into custody around 5 a.m. at his home in the 46200 block of Calhoun Street.

A CHP K9 assisted in the search of Lugo’s home and authorities found methamphetamine, heroin, two handguns, three rifles, a substantial amount of money, and other evidence of narcotics sales, officials said in the release.

The estimated value of the drugs was over $5,840.

Deputies said Lugo was arrested and booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for possession of methamphetamine for sales, possession of heroin for sales, possession of narcotics while armed, possession of a short-barreled rifle, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
