UPDATE: Lake fire 60% contained, all evacuations lifted
Firefighters continue to make progress battling the Lake Fire, which is now 60% contained. It has burned more than 30,700 acresAll evacuation orders, including the Burns Canyon area, have been lifted Sunday night.
The wildfire fire has destroyed one home and three out buildings. The structures were in Burns Canyon at the eastern edge of the fire. Had the time was the only area that still had mandatory evacuations in place.
Highway 38 has been re-opened, however all areas affected by the fire remain closed to recreation purposes.
Sunday night firefighters will camp out on the eastern fire line to eliminate travel to and from camp. Early access to the area will allow the firefighters to complete the control line in that area sooner.
The U.S. Forest Service says the rain and increase in relative humidity had only a slight effect on fire behavior. Light fuels, such as grasses, have responded to the increase in relative humidity and precipitation; however, the precipitation has little effect on the larger dead and down timber.
The Lake Fire was reported just before 4:00 pm on June 17, 2015. The cause remains under investigation.
