Suspect identified after high speed chase through DHS
A man was arrested after leading police on a high speed chase in a stolen pickup truck from Desert Hot Springs to Indio, and back before being arrested Monday night.
Officers with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department said Moises Mazariegos was topping 100 MPH before finally stopping.
Cordy Ayala saw the chase and said the suspect was driving very fast, “I mean they were going so fast we could just hear it just like miles away. And then he was swerving in and out in between lanes. He almost hit a couple cars too.”
Police said the maroon Ford F-150 he was driving was stolen.
Officers tried to stop Mazariegos in Desert Hot Springs shortly before Midnight Monday when the suspect took off driving eastbound on Interstate 10 toward Indio.
He then exited the freeway, taking Dillon Road through Sky Valley and back to Desert Hot Springs.
Witnesses said Mazariegos ran stop signs and sped through roundabouts.
The chase ended at Cactus Drive and Acoma Avenue in Desert Hot Springs when CHP officers used a pit maneuver to stop the truck.
Ayala said, “It wasn’t the policemen’s fault, but I did see one of the policemen almost hit a car. So the car had to speed up a little bit so they didn’t get hit by the police car.”
Officers said Mazariegos was booked into the Banning Correctional Facility on multiple felony charges including vehicle theft and evading.
