Sunline to offer free rides between Palm Desert & Riverside

SunLine Transit Agency announced Friday that free rides will be offered next week on its Commuter Link 220 line that goes from Palm Desert to Riverside, with stops at Morongo Casino and Moreno Valley.

The ridership promotion, scheduled to begin Monday and continue through Friday, also will give the transit agency a chance to evaluate a BYD C9 electric bus for potential purchase. The 40-foot, long-range coach runs on solar energy and a battery reserve.

“We’re really excited about being selected to test this innovative new concept in zero emissions transit,” said Lauren Skiver, general manager of SunLine Transit Agency. “We thought it would be a great way to encourage potential riders to try out our Commuter Link 220 line, as well, so we designed the free rides promotion in conjunction with the BYD C9 trial run.”

She added: “We think there are a number of people here in the valley who are still unaware of our weekday service to and from Riverside.”

The Commuter Link 220 route runs twice daily, to and from Riverside. Commuter Link buses feature plush seats, free Wi-Fi, cup holders, overhead reading lights, and racks for luggage and bicycles.
