Vegetation fire next to Hwy 60 fully contained
A vegetation fire that sparked next to Highway 60 near Jack Rabbit Trail on Monday morning was fully contained by noon.
According to the Cal Fire release, the ‘Jack Fire’ sparked on the side of eastbound Highway 60, west of Jack Rabbit Trail at about 9:54 a.m. The fire grew to about five acres as it burned in dry brush.
Firefighters said weather was a bit cooler and wind was calm so that helped them contain the fire rather quickly.
The fire forced the California Highway Patrol to close the No. 2 eastbound lane of Highway 60 while firefighters ascended the rugged terrain. The lane was expected to be reopened by 1 p.m.
