Illegal border crosser wanted in Colorado on murder charge
Border Patrol agents arrested a suspect in a Colorado homicide Friday as he tried to make an illegal entry into the United States.
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro station apprehended Ignacio Luque Verdugo, a 31-year-old Mexican citizen shortly after 8 a.m. Friday.
Border Patrol agents reportedly observed Luque cross the border illegally through an area three miles west of the Calexico downtown port of entry.
Agents located Luque and placed him under arrest.
Authorities were alerted to an active felony warrant out of Colorado for first-degree murder when they ran Luque’s information through law enforcement databases.
Luque was in Border Patrol custody Monday and was set to be turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department.
The El Centro Sector Border Patrol office reported 14,511 apprehensions of people attempting to enter the United States illegally during the past fiscal year.
