Man arrested for attempted murder after firing gun from Jeep

A 58-year-old man from Twentynine Palms was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly shooting at a man several times while they were both driving through the Hansen Tract subdivision.

The 29-year-old victim told deputies that the suspect, Mark White, pulled a handgun on him near the 74000 block of Kellogg Avenue. He said White was in a small sedan and was driving with no headlights.

Deputies said the victim called 911 and then tried to find the suspect’s car.

According to the sheriff’s release, the suspect changed vehicles and was driving an older Willys-style Jeep when he pointed a gun at the victim again. But this time, deputies said he fired five shots at the victim as they sped through the Hansen Tract in Twentynine Palms.

The sheriff’s department received several reports of shots fired in the area. The investigation led deputies to the 7400 block of Sherman Hoyt Avenue where they ordered the suspect to come out of the home.

Mark White exited the house and was taken into custody. The victim identified White as the shooter and deputies said they found several guns in his home.

White was booked into the Morongo Jail for attempted murder and he’s being held on $1M bail.

The investigation continues. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates as more information is released.
