FIVE-PEAT! Palm Springs Power win 5th straight SCCBL title
All playoffs long, the Palm Springs Power were down.
They were never out.
After battling back from two 0-1 deficits in the best-of-three series formats, the Palm Springs Power once again claimed the SoCal Collegiate Baseball League championship.
Palm Springs beat Orange County 4-2 in the winner-take-all Game 3 for the SCCBL title, their fifth straight and seventh in the last nine years.
Power pitcher Angel Landazuri was strong in five innings of work, only allowing one run in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly. Landazuri was hit by a sharp comebacker to the mound in the third inning, but stayed in the game and continued to be effective.
The momentum shifted in the fourth inning. The Riptide had a runner on second with two outs when Zach McLeod singled to center. That could’ve scored the run to give Orange County a 2-0 lead but instead center fielder Nick Jackson made a strong throw to the plate and Cody Gaertner applied the tag for the final out of the frame.
In the bottom half of the inning, Jackson used his bat to tie the game with an RBI double to right center that scored Zachary Davis. Jackson later scored in the inning from an RBI single by Ian McLaughlin.
Palm Springs added two more runs in the seventh inning thanks to a bases-loaded two RBI double by Gaertner.
The Power will face the Orange County Collegiate League champs starting Wednesday in a best-of-three series.
