California man sentenced to one year in jail for attacking dog with machete

A judge in Central California has sentenced a man to one year in jail for his role in slashing a dog with a machete and leaving it to die while tied to a fire hydrant.

The Merced Sun-Star reports Judge Davd W. Moranda sentenced 29-year-old Aaron W. Carney Monday.

Carney was a co-defendant with 46-year-old Myron L. Pattillo, who prosecutors said was the main culprit in the May 1 attack.

Patillo pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and received a two-year-prison sentenced earlier this month.

Prosecutor say the attack happened after the Siberian Husky named Lucious bit Pattillo’s dog. They say Pattillo and Carney caught up with the man walking Lucious, grabbed the dog and used a leash to tie him to the fire hydrant.

The badly wounded dog had to be euthanized.
