Heat Advisory in effect through Wednesday

A large area of high pressure is expected to bring temperatures up to 112-116 in the Coachella Valley through Thursday.

A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in San Diego. The advisory goes into effect at Noon on Tuesday in the Coachella Valley. High temperatures are expected to be 5-10 above average through Thursday, with the hottest day expected to be Wednesday. Highs 112-116 are expected.

Temperatures this warm can take a serious toll on people and animals. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids. Avoid outdoor activity during the day when at all possible. If outside, take plenty of breaks and take advantage of shade when ever possible.

Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.

WARMING TO AROUND 5 DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE WITH HOTTEST HIGH
TEMPERATURES ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY OF 112 TO 116 DEGREES…
MAINLY IN THE PALM SPRINGS AREA ON TUESDAY…EXPANDING INTO THE
THERMAL AREA ON WEDNESDAY. SLOW COOLING WILL FOLLOW FOR THURSDAY
THROUGH SATURDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE… RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE
IS AN EMERGENCY – CALL 911.
