Banning teen dies after being struck by train

A 16-year-old boy died after being hit by a train in Banning on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Banning Police Department, officers responded to the San Gorgonio railroad track crossing at 2:55 p.m. after someone reported a pedestrian was hit by a train.

When officers arrived to the scene, they said they found the 16-year-old boy unconscious and he had severe injuries from the impact of the Union Pacific train.

Officers said the teen was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs wher he later died from his injuries.

The Union Pacific Police Department is investigating the deadly collision. Police said the teen’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
