UPDATE: Two customers still in the dark after Beaumont crash knocks out power

UPDATE: Monday, 8/17 8:45 a.m. Two customers are still without power. SCE expects power fully restored by 10:00 a.m. Monday.

UPDATE: 11 p.m Power has been restored to nearly all SCE customers in Beaumont after a two-vehicle crash downed power lines. Only nine customers remained without electricity Sunday night. Crews estimated power will be restored by 12:15 a.m. Monday.

UPDATE: 6 p.m. Southern California Edison says 165 customers remain without power. Crews expect to have all electricity back on by Monday morning.

Two cars crashed in Beaumont Sunday morning, hurting two people and knocking down power poles, CalFire says.

It happened around six a.m. on Oak Valley Parkway and Oak View Drive. CalFire says live power poles fell on top of the cars, trapping one unresponsive person inside for more than an hour until Southern California Edison could shut off power. Another person was immediately taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The trapped person was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital with major injuries.

9:00 a.m.: Southern California Edison reports power to be off in that area for 12 hours;2,552 customers are impacted.

Beaumont will open the Albert A. Chatigny Center as a cooling center for any resident affected by the power outage.
