Palm Springs Police opens roads after suspicious package investigated

Palm Springs Police opened Vista Chino and Farrell Drives after investigating a suspicious package, that blocked off the intersections of Vista Chino and Farrell Drives Thursday morning.

According to Palm Springs Police, at approximately 8:00 AM, they received a report of a suspicious package located on the sidewalk near the intersection causing a major headache for people trying to get to work.

“I thought it was pretty crazy, everything was jammed up streets were packed, we didn’t know what was going on,” said Cameron Bell, who was trying to get to work at the time.

Police arrived on scene and located the package and determined that it possibly presented a danger to the public, after noticing threatening writing on a box.

“The side of the box had written on it ‘Do Not Open’ and ‘Do Not Touch’ and had a bunch of Xs on it so we deemed that it was a suspicious package based on the writing the location in a busy area in the intersection,” said Lt. Mikle Kovaleff with the Palm Springs Police Department.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Hazardous Device Team investigated the package and later determined that it was only a box filled with energy bars.

“Someone is going to be tired this morning, because they forgot their energy bars,” said Bell.

The roadway was re-opened just before 11:30 a.m.
