Battle of the Badges in Rancho Mirage gives back to kids

Public safety members from across the southland duked it out at the Battle of the Badges Charity Boxing Tournament at Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage Saturday.

For one night, cops, firefighters, and correctional officers exchanged their uniforms for boxing gloves. It was a friendly rivalry in the ring as members from different law enforcement agencies are paired up against each other.

Some had been training for more than eight weeks.

“I love the sport of boxing. I work hard every day, my trainers are with me every day. I’m always working at it, always trying to improve. Just to come out and display that is really exciting. I love it,” said Sheriff’s deputy Travon Taylor.

The event is all for a good cause with proceeds going toward the Cops 4 Kids & Communities program.
